Is it posible to extend VXLAN on hardware switches?

FFerrario Lv1Posted 24 Feb 2021 19:10

In my setup I'm currently using switches (Arista) that have full support for VXLAN, is it possible to configure an HCI cluster to connect to an external VTEP configured on the physical switch?

This would really ease the network management when you have to mix up physical and virtual resources.
For example if you have a bunch of virtual machines for light workloads and some dedicated physical servers for large data handling or  for other specific purpouses

Using vxlan you could simply extend the overlay instead of configuring each single vlan on the entire datacenter network

Thanks in advance,
Francesco

By default, HCI already has its own overlay/VXLAN network for vm communication between nodes. By default, multicast addresses will be used for VXLAN communication in HCI. If mixing up with external VTEP,  just afraid it will affect the operations of current nodes communication and running vm.
