Hardware Acceleration on iSCSI HCI 10

Nazhif Lv1Posted 05 May 2023 14:32

please, can anyone explain to me what exactly Hardware Acceleration meaning when i try add iSCSI server to sangfor HCI??
it always show "To ensure performance and stability of external storage, enable hardware acceleration for external storage"
is using NAS for iSCSI will solve this problem? can anyone suggest NAS storage who support add iSCSI server  to sangfor HCI?

Hardware acceleration refers to the use of specialized hardware components, such as a graphics processing unit (GPU), network interface card (NIC), or storage controller, to perform certain tasks more efficiently than a general-purpose CPU.

When adding an iSCSI server to Sangfor HCI, enabling hardware acceleration for external storage can help improve performance and stability by offloading storage-related tasks to a dedicated hardware component. This can help reduce the workload on the CPU and improve overall system performance.

Using a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device for iSCSI storage may or may not solve this problem, depending on the specific hardware and configuration. Some NAS devices may support hardware acceleration for iSCSI storage, while others may not. Additionally, the performance and stability of the iSCSI storage will also depend on factors such as the network bandwidth, latency, and disk I/O performance.

If you are looking for a NAS device that supports adding an iSCSI server to Sangfor HCI, you may want to consult the documentation or support resources for your specific HCI and NAS solutions, as well as any compatibility or performance requirements. Some popular NAS brands that support iSCSI storage include Synology, QNAP, and NetApp, among others.

Allows certain processes to be offloaded to specialised hardware components, such as network interface cards (NICs) or storage controllers, which are designed for these specific operations. This offloading increases the storage system's overall performance and efficiency.

Hardware acceleration refers to the use of specialized hardware components to speed up and optimize a particular task, such as data storage and retrieval in the case of an iSCSI server. Using a NAS for iSCSI may solve the problem, and some popular options for NAS storage that support adding an iSCSI server to Sangfor HCI include Synology, QNAP, and Western Digital.

Enabling Hardware Acceleration when adding an iSCSI server to a Sangfor HCI system typically involves configuring the system to use specialized hardware components, such as a network interface card (NIC) with support for hardware offloading, to accelerate the transfer of data between the iSCSI server and the HCI nodes.

hardware acceleration, you need to check it to the vendor/brand of external storage if they support that feature

The employment of specialized hardware components to boost the performance of specific computing operations is referred to as hardware acceleration. Hardware acceleration can be used to offload some of the processing and network traffic associated with iSCSI storage operations from the general-purpose CPUs and network adapters of the servers and instead handle them with specialized hardware components such as ASICs (application-specific integrated circuits) or FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays) when adding an iSCSI server to a Sangfor HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure).

When considering NAS storage that supports adding an iSCSI server to Sangfor HCI, it is recommended to consult with Sangfor or a reputable storage vendor that offers NAS solutions with iSCSI support. They can provide guidance on compatible NAS storage solutions and assist in integrating them into your Sangfor HCI environment.
