VM unable to boot after install vmtools

Issue Description

After vm installed with vmtools, the vm will result in black screen and unable to boot up.

Error/Warning Information

Handling Process

1. Try boot the vm with WinPE, found that the vm OS disk has become raw format.

2. Checked on the original vm, found that the vm was installed with DiskSafe application.

3. Checked on the registry path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, disksafe is included in the driver.

4. As per verified, virtio driver was not compatible with Disksafe application, this is due to the data is chaotically placed on the disk and will be written to the C drive, resulting in system file damage.

5. Proceed to uninstall disksafe application throguh Windows Programs and Features. After uninstall DiskSafe, vmtools able to installed and boot up successfully.

Root Cause

VM installed with Disksafe not compatible with Virtio driver, resulting the system file in data file is damaged.

Solution

Uninstall Disksafe application before installed vmtools
