#Configuration# How to Configure Policy-Based Routing (PBR) on Sangfor NGFW for link-based traffic routing.

Samianto Lv1Posted Mar-05-2026 10:22

Sangfor NGFW supports multi‑link load balancing and failover through its PBR system. Multi‑link routing distributes traffic across WAN links and enables link failover if one link goes down.

How Failover Works in Sangfor
When using multi‑link PBR, Sangfor continuously monitors WAN link status. If the primary link fails, traffic is automatically switched to the secondary link. Policies can specify:
  • preferred link
  • backup link
  • load sharing ratios

Steps to Configure WAN Failover
(1) Define WAN Interfaces
  • Ensure WAN1 and WAN2 are configured under Network → Interface.
(Refer to Sangfor NGFW documentation for interface configuration.)

(2) Enable Multi‑Link Load Balancing
  • Go to Network → Routing → Policy‑Based Routing
  • Add a new PBR rule

(3) Configure Link Priority / Weight
  • In the same menu as the steps above, scroll down.
  • Set WAN-1 as primary.
  • Set WAN-2 as secondary (failover).

(4) Enable Link Health Monitoring
  • Configure ping or connectivity checks for each WAN interface.
  • When WAN1 fails health checks, traffic automatically shifts to WAN2.
  • Go to Objects → Link State Detection → Klik Add
  • Set up link state detection for the WAN‑1 and WAN‑2 interfaces.

(5) Apply and Test
  • Disconnect WAN1 to confirm automatic failover.
  • Review logs under System → Logs for routing changes.

I hope this can be helpful for all of you.
