Netplan Interface Not Automatically Updating After Failover Migration with SCMP

Newbie382789 Lv1Posted Sep-22-2025 16:13

Hi everyone,

After performing a failover migration and powering on the Linux VM, I noticed that the Netplan interfaces on Linux do not automatically update or change. I have to manually update the Netplan configuration to reflect the new interface.

However, when not using SCMP, the Netplan configuration automatically includes the additional interface right after power-on, without any manual intervention.

Has anyone experienced this behavior? Is there something specific about SCMP that prevents Netplan from detecting and updating the new interfaces automatically?

Any insights or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The behavior you're experiencing with Netplan interfaces not automatically updating after a failover migration using SCMT (Sangfor Cloud Migration Tool) can be attributed to the way SCMT handles network configurations during the migration process.

Recommended Steps

To resolve the issue and ensure that your Netplan configuration reflects the new interfaces after a migration, you can follow these steps:

1. Check Current Netplan Configuration: Review your current Netplan configuration file, typically located in `/etc/netplan/`. You can use the command:
cat /etc/netplan/*.yaml

2. Update Netplan Configuration: If the new interfaces are not listed, you will need to manually add them to the Netplan configuration file. For example:
network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
    eth0:
      dhcp4: true
    eth1:
      dhcp4: true

3. Apply Changes: After updating the configuration, apply the changes using:
sudo netplan apply

4. Verify Interfaces: Check if the interfaces are now recognized and configured correctly using:
ip a
