good morning everyone,
I would need to create a VM with the operating system disk on the fastest datastore in ssd, and a second hard disk on the second larger mechanical datastore, exactly as we have done for years with vmware, is it possible with HCI? I have a single node with two local storages

thanks

Hi, in an HCI environment, the configuration you are looking for is not supported. Here are the details:

- Datastore Selection: In an HCI environment, the Datastore for a virtual machine (VM) can only be selected as one. Selecting multiple local storage is not supported. This means you cannot create a VM with its operating system disk on one datastore (SSD) and a second hard disk on another datastore (mechanical).

- Single Node Limitations: Since you mentioned that you have a single node with two local storages, it's important to note that local storage only allows the host where the disks reside to read and write. If the host fails, other hosts cannot read or write the VM disk images stored on it, which can lead to issues with VM availability.

In summary, you cannot achieve the desired configuration of having a VM with its OS disk on one datastore and a second hard disk on another datastore in a single-node HCI setup. You would need to consider a multi-node setup or different storage configurations to meet your requirements.
