Hi,

If both hosts are managed by a vCenter, you should still be able to migrate the vCenter virtual machine using Storage vMotion (if licensed).

It sounds like you’re encountering a common issue with VMware Tools after migrating a VM. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the problem:

Manual Uninstallation:
Safe Mode: Boot the VM into Safe Mode and try uninstalling VMware Tools from there.
Command Line: Use the command line to uninstall VMware Tools. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run:
"C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\VMwareToolsUpgrader.exe" /c

Reinstallation:
Sometimes, reinstalling VMware Tools can fix the uninstallation issue. Download the latest version of VMware Tools from the VMware website and install it over the existing installation. Then, try uninstalling it again.
Registry Cleanup:
If the above methods don’t work, you might need to manually clean up the registry entries related to VMware Tools. Be cautious with this step, as incorrect changes to the registry can cause system issues. You can use a tool like CCleaner to help with this process.

To resolve the VMware Tools error on your migrated Windows 2022 VM, try using the VMware Cleanup utility to remove the existing tools. After cleanup, reinstall the latest version of VMware Tools from the VMware website.

Hi,

There might be some reasons on why you encounter an error with VMware tools after your activity. You may find some resources below:

1. Always check for the specific error message that can provide clues like "VMWare Tools is still loading" or other error codes
2. Make sure that you have a stable network connection between the vCenter/VMware Workstation and the migrated VM. Network connectivity issues can sometimes lead to incomplete installations or errors during the VMware Tools migration process.
3. You may try a Forceful uninstall and reinstall since the standard uninstall is not working.
   - from vCenter/VMware Workstation you may navigate to "Guest > Install/Upgrade VMware Tools" the choose Force install.
   - From the Guest OS (Windows 2022) open a command prompt as administrator then typenet stop vmtools and press Enter to stop the VMware Tools service.
   - Type setup /c and press Enter to force the removal of registry entries and deletes the old VMware Tools installation.
   - After the forced uninstall, proceed with the reinstall using the method mentioned above (vCenter/Workstation or Guest OS).
4. Check VMware Tools Version Compatibility and make sure that you're installing the correct version of VMware Tools compatible with your vSphere version and the migrated Windows 2022 VM then download the compatible installer from the VMware website.
5. In some cases, other processes might interfere with the VMware Tools installation so you may try temporarily disabling any antivirus or security software before attempting the reinstall.

Hi, i faced this issue yesterday on a customer. It seems that there's only the registry uninstall key about vmware tools. I solve by removing manually the vmware tools uninstall registry key located on Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall .
To avoid this issue, on a second virtual machine, i remove immediately the vmware tools after the migration processi is completed (i chhose to power on manually the vm on hci after the migration is completed).

Hi,

You can try running the VMware Tools installer again (either from the VMware Tools installation media or the mounted ISO) and select the repair or uninstall option

When attempting to uninstall VMware Tools from a migrated Windows 2022 VM, you may encounter an error due to the fact that the uninstaller is not compatible with the new VM version. To resolve this issue, try the following solution: open the Windows Services console, locate the "VMware SVGA" service, and stop it. Then, open the Device Manager, navigate to the "Display Adapters" section, right-click on the VMware SVGA adapter and select "Uninstall device". This will remove the VMware Tools component without requiring the uninstaller.

If VMware Tools is showing errors and cannot be uninstalled after migrating a Windows Server 2022 VM, ensure you are using the latest version of VMware Tools compatible with Windows Server 2022.

There are a few possible reasons why you might be encountering an error with VMware Tools and the inability to uninstall it after migrating a Windows 2022 VM from vCenter 7.

0.3 to Sangfor SCP 6.10. Here's how to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Compatibility Issues:

Sangfor SCP Version: Check for compatibility between Sangfor SCP 6.10 and VMware Tools versions installed on the migrated Windows 2022 VM. Sangfor might have documentation or support resources specifying compatible versions. You might need to upgrade/downgrade VMware Tools on the VM to ensure compatibility.

2. Incomplete Migration:

VMware Tools Transfer: During migration, there's a possibility that VMware Tools weren't transferred completely to the Sangfor environment. Try reinstalling VMware Tools on the Windows 2022 VM within the Sangfor interface.

3. Driver Issues:

Sangfor Drivers: Sangfor might provide its own drivers for the migrated VM. Incompatibilities between these drivers and VMware Tools can cause issues. Try temporarily disabling Sangfor drivers and see if the VMware Tools error persists.

4. Conflicting Processes:

Conflicting Software: Certain software or services running on the VM might interfere with VMware Tools. Try a clean boot in Windows 2022 to minimize background processes and attempt uninstalling VMware Tools again.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Here's a recommended approach to diagnose and fix the issue:

Check Compatibility: Verify Sangfor SCP 6.10 compatibility with the existing VMware Tools version.
Reinstall VMware Tools: Attempt to reinstall VMware Tools within the Sangfor interface.
Test with Sangfor Drivers Disabled: Temporarily disable Sangfor drivers and see if the error persists.
Clean Boot and Uninstall: Perform a clean boot on Windows 2022 and try uninstalling VMware Tools again.
