Hi,

May I know if what type of interface can be added to layer 2 zone? Thanks.

1.route inteface
2.Virtual interface
3.vlan interface
4.mirror interface

HiHi,

In Sangfor NGAF, mirror interfaces cannot be added to layer 2 zones but other options are allowed.
Is this answer helpful?

In Layer 2 zone configuration, typically, you can add VLAN interfaces. VLAN interfaces allow for the segmentation of a single physical network into multiple virtual networks, enabling better network management and security. These interfaces are associated with specific VLAN IDs and provide connectivity within their respective VLANs. While route interfaces are used for Layer 3 routing, virtual interfaces are more commonly associated with virtualization technologies, and mirror interfaces are utilized for traffic monitoring and analysis purposes, making VLAN interfaces the most suitable option for adding to Layer 2 zones.

You can add two types of interfaces to a Sangfor Layer 2 zone:

3. VLAN interface

VLAN interfaces are the primary interface type used within Layer 2 zones. They represent virtual LANs (VLANs) that segment the network traffic on a single physical interface. Each VLAN interface carries traffic for a specific VLAN, allowing for better network organization and security.

2. Virtual interface

While less common, virtual interfaces can also be added to Layer 2 zones in some Sangfor NGAF models. These interfaces are logical representations of physical interfaces and can be used for functionalities like link aggregation or redundancy.

Here's why the other options are not suitable for Sangfor Layer 2 zones:

    1. Route interface: Route interfaces are Layer 3 interfaces used for routing traffic between different networks. They wouldn't be directly added to a Layer 2 zone, which focuses on switching traffic within the same Layer 2 broadcast domain.
    4. Mirror interface: Mirror interfaces are used to copy traffic from a specific physical port for monitoring purposes. While they might be associated with a Layer 2 zone if the mirrored port belongs to that zone, they are not directly added as functional interfaces themselves.

All below interfaces can be added to Layer 2 zone

1. Route Interface
2. Virtual Interface
3. VLAN Interface

In a Layer 2 zone, VLAN interface can be added. VLAN interfaces are used to segment the network into virtual LANs, providing logical separation and isolation of traffic within a Layer 2 network. VLAN interfaces allow different VLANs to communicate with each other through routing or Layer 3 interfaces, while keeping the traffic segregated at Layer 2.

Hi, Sangfor NGAF supports both Layer 2 and Layer 3 interface types.

In a Layer 2 interface, the interface is similar to a common switch. It supports both IPv4 and IPv6 environments. There’s no need to configure an IP address, it doesn’t support route forwarding, and it forwards data according to the MAC address table.

In a Layer 3 interface, you can configure an IP address for the interface. This type of interface is used for routing and forwarding data based on IP addresses.

In general, a mirror interface (also known as a SPAN port) is used to forward copies of network packets from one interface to another, which is useful for network troubleshooting or for implementing network intrusion detection systems.

As i know, you can't add mirror interface to a layer 2 zone.

In layer 2 zones, VLAN interfaces are typically used for network segmentation. While virtual interfaces and mirror interfaces have their uses, VLAN interfaces are the most common and relevant for this purpose. Route interfaces, primarily used for layer 3 routing, are less directly associated with layer 2 zoning.
