Mirror Deployment on IAG

Denny Chanditya Posted 24 Aug 2023 16:26

Hi,
I have a IAG 5000 series, first we use bridge deployment on 2 interfaces.
but we need other interface to work as a mirror interface for some reason.

if i use the deployment guide again, is my 2 bridge interface will be delete?
or there is other way to config the mirror interfaces?
i have only one device so i cannot do the lab, i afraid it will delete the bridge interface and create mirror interface only

Thanks

You currently have an IAG 5000 series device configured in a bridge deployment across two interfaces, and your objective is to set up an additional interface as a mirror interface. You are concerned that reconfiguring it according to the deployment guide might inadvertently remove your existing bridge interfaces. To address this concern, it is advisable to thoroughly review the deployment guide and any manufacturer-provided documentation to gain a clear understanding of how adding a mirror interface may affect your setup.

Prior to making any modifications, it is essential to create a backup of your current configuration. In case you encounter any uncertainties or complexities during the process, consider reaching out to the manufacturer's support team for expert guidance.

If feasible, think about establishing a virtual laboratory environment where you can simulate the proposed changes before implementing them on your live production device. This prudent approach will help you prevent any disruptions and allow you to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ramifications of the adjustments you intend to make.

If you're concerned about losing your existing bridge interfaces, consider making incremental changes. Instead of reconfiguring everything at once, try adding the mirror interface while keeping the bridge interfaces intact. This approach reduces the chances of unintended consequences and network disruption. Additionally, document your existing bridge configurations thoroughly, including settings like VLANs, IP addressing, and port assignments. This documentation serves as a valuable reference in case you need to revert to the previous configuration or troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the transition. Moreover, before implementing any changes, it's a good practice to simulate the new configuration in a test environment to identify and address any potential issues proactively. This cautious approach minimizes the risk of downtime or disruptions to your network while ensuring a smoother transition to the updated setup.

To address this, carefully review the deployment guide and any documentation provided by the manufacturer to understand the impact of adding a mirror interface. If possible, consider setting up a virtual lab environment to simulate changes before applying them to your production device. This cautious approach will help you avoid disruptions and better understand the implications of the changes you're making.

Using virtualization or emulation techniques, it can still be advantageous to investigate the idea of building a virtual lab environment. You may try out different settings in this way without endangering your production environment.

If you're unclear of how the modifications you're about to make may affect the device, you can try contacting its technical support or speaking with someone who is familiar with that model of equipment. They may offer advice that is specific to your circumstance and make sure you don't unintentionally interrupt vital services.

If your device supports it, you might consider creating a snapshot or backup image of your current configuration before making any changes. This way, you can easily revert back to the previous state if needed.

If your organization follows formal change management procedures, make sure to adhere to them when making configuration changes. This includes documenting the changes you plan to make, assessing potential risks, and having a plan to mitigate any issues that might arise.
