The NGAF virtual wire interface is a Layer 2 interface. It does not need to check the MAC table when forwarding data. It is directly forwarded from the interface paired by the virtual wire. The forwarding performance is higher than the transparent mode.

* Route or Gateway mode forwards the traffic based on the layer 3 protocol of the OSI reference model.

* Transparent or Bridge mode forwards the traffic based on the layer 2 protocol of the OSI reference model.

* Virtual Wire or Virtual Wire Pair mode forwards the traffic based on pairing. No other lookups will be done.
