Hi
With the SNMP protocol, it is possible to shut down the VMs of an HCI node before the UPS batteries run out

Hi Daviduccio,
I think better you may refer to the manual guide provided by your UPS vendor for the appropriate integration method. Depending on the UPS solution, it may require either Installing an agent on the server to trigger actions, or configuring server credentials/API access to execute scripts remotely.

I recommended you just test the setup on a single server first to ensure that the automation scripts function as expected. This includes doing the assessment to verifying the proper shutdown sequence of your servers and virtual machines, because incorrect automation or shutdown sequencing may lead to Improper VM shutdown, potential data corruption, system instability or service disruption
Is this answer helpful?

same question.. i tried but, although the UPS communicates correctly via SNMP with HCI,  no one can turn off as per policy both VMs or Hosts .. This is a big problem especially in situations where there are power shortages that are not due to the end customer

Hi Mate,
Yes, it is possible to safely shut down virtual machines (VMs) before the UPS battery runs out.
However, you must configure this as an automated process with UPS management software tools and integrate it's with HCI platform API
Once integrated, specific rules and policies can be configured to trigger graceful shutdown scripts for virtual machines and, if required, the underlying hosts.

Hello Dear!
Indeed, virtual machines (VMs) can be securely shut down before the UPS battery runs out.
However, you need to interface it with the HCI platform API and set this up as an automated procedure using UPS management software tools.
After integration, certain rules and policies can be set up to cause virtual machines and, if necessary, the underlying hosts to gracefully shut down.

HI Mate,
Is there an official guide where I can see the correct procedure? I am new to this environment
