I like style 3, I cannot access style 2
feature no right hand page directory, which gives the core article more horizontal room on the screen

I prefer style 1 and 2 that have the page directory which very helpful for user that want to seek specific information can check from the page directory/index first.

style 3 is clean, but not informative and wasting user time while need to looking for specific information.

I prefer Styles 2 and 3!
Style 2 makes it super easy to jump around using the directory, while Style 3 gives the main content a clean, wide layout that's way easier on the eyes. Both make finding info effortless.

Style 3. as stated on your post it gives more room for articles  you can always select the desired article and expand it anyway.

I like Style 3.
