Hi, the console port on Sangfor NGAF serves two important functions:

1) Out-of-band management

  • The console port allows you to access and manage the device even if the network or web interfaces are not accessible.
  • It is particularly useful for troubleshooting and initial configuration when other methods are unavailable.

2) Initial Configuration Access:

To access NGAF using the console port, follow these steps:
  • Connect a console cable from the console port on NGAF to your computer.
  • Use terminal software on your computer (such as PuTTY, Tera Term, or Konsole).
  • Configure the terminal software with the appropriate settings (e.g., baud rate, data bits, stop bits, and parity).
  • Access NGAF by connecting to the console port using the configured terminal software.

Is this answer helpful?

HiHi,

The CONSOLE interface is for development, testing, and debugging only.
The end users need to access the device by the networking interface and logging in to the console.

The default IP address of the eth0 networking interface of the NGAF device is eth0 10.251.251.251/24.
If the computer is connected to the eth0 port of the device, you need to
configure a 10.251.251.0/24 network segment address on the computer first, open the browser, and enter https://10.251.251.251 to log into the device gateway console.

Hi,

console port not only for Sangfor NGAF but also for other devices serves 2 functions.

1st is for out of band management wherein you are allowed to access and manage the devices even if  network or web interfaces are not accessible, usually used for troubleshooting and/or initial configuration

2nd is for debugging and diagnostic purposes, in which the console port can be used to view logs, execute diagnostic commands and in some cases for advanced troubleshooting

Below are some requirements when using console port:

- a PC with  serial port or a USB to serial adapter / cable
- emulation program like Putty, Tera term, etc
- a console cable compatible with Sangfor NGAF device
- set to specific baudrate: 115200 (unless already changed)
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- flow control: None

It is recommended to follow instructions based on Sangfor NGAF documentation

Long story short, the console is for accessing the box using CLI. User's won't be able to access cuz this port is meant for Sangfor tech team to access the backend of the system. Upon accessing it, it will require a password to access. I believe Sangfor doesn't give permission to backend any hardware sangfor related, maybe.

For fresh configuration, eth0 has the default IP 10.251.251.251/24 to access the web ui of ngaf

The console port on NGAF (Next-Generation Application Firewall) serves the function of providing a way to access the device's command-line interface (CLI) or console. It allows for configuration, troubleshooting, and management of the NGAF device.

To access NGAF using the console port, you can follow these steps:

Connect your device (such as a laptop) to the NGAF console port using a serial cable.
Open a terminal emulator program on your device, such as PuTTY or HyperTerminal.
Configure the terminal emulator with the appropriate settings, such as the correct serial port and baud rate.
Power on the NGAF device.
Once the NGAF device has booted up, you should see the console output on your terminal emulator.
You can now interact with the NGAF device through the console interface, entering commands and configuring settings as needed.
Please note that the specific steps may vary depending on the NGAF model and firmware version you are using.

The console port on Sangfor NGAF is a serial port that allows you to access the NGAF device using a terminal emulator software and a console cable. You can use the console port to perform initial configuration, troubleshooting, or recovery tasks on the NGAF device.

To access the NGAF device using the console port, you need the following:
•  A PC with a serial port or a USB to serial adapter/cable
•  A console cable compatible with Sangfor NGAF device
•  A terminal emulator software such as Putty, Tera Term, etc.
You also need to set the terminal emulator software to the following settings:
•  Baud rate: 115200 (unless already changed)
•  Data bits: 8
•  Parity: None
•  Stop bits: 1
•  Flow control: None

Then, you need to connect the console cable to the console port on the NGAF device and the PC, and launch the terminal emulator software. You should see a login prompt on the terminal window.

The console port on NGAF (Next-Generation Application Firewall) used for two primary functions: out-of-band management and debugging/diagnostic purposes. It allows technicians to access the device CLI for troubleshooting, initial configuration, and advanced diagnostics. To access NGAF using the console port, you'll need to connect a computer to the console port using a console cable, and then use PuTTY/Tera Term to establish a connection. Once connected, you can interact with the NGAF device thru the CLI, executing commands and configuring settings as necessary. However, it's important to note that access via the console port is typically restricted to authorized personnel for security reasons & end users are generally advised to access the device through its networking interface for regular usage.
