aSAN Dedup and Compress

Please, does aSAN have data deduplication and compression on virtual datastores? I ask because SOLVIA always replies that it doesn't exist, but in the Sangfor HCI V6.11.3 Technical White Paper on page 380 it says that it does exist, but it doesn't explain very well, or maybe I didn't understand it correctly...

There’s no explanation of how it works, what it’s for, or how to use it...

Deduplication and compression are techniques for reducing duplicate data and minimizing space usage, which I wasn't able to see in Sangfor aSAN, where we need to double or triple the storage capacity when sizing an environment.

See in this same document, on page 258 - figure 178 also shows as a resource layer the two features, dedup and compression, I'm talking about VM data storage and not backup or archiving repositories

Could someone explain if it really exists, how it works in detail, what the achieved rate is (even if just from a study)? These are features that greatly affect the adoption of Sangfor HCI compared to other manufacturers.

Hi,

Yes — there is an important distinction here, and based on Sangfor’s current HCI 6.11.3 documentation, I would not treat the existence of deduplication/compression in aSAN VM datastores as confirmed.
The exact wording and figures you mentioned if you upload the Sangfor HCI V6.11.3 Technical White Paper
