NSF HA Active-Active Configuration in Route Mode

hi Community,

Just want to clarify something. Can NSF be configured in HA Active-Active in route mode.

The reason i ask is because i found this topic has been asked below that answered it can only be done in bridge mode and virtual wire mode . Can someone verify this ?

Hello,
in NSF you can canfigure HA in Active-Active in route mode .

{ Only in active/active as well as layer-3 mode, there are two sets of high availability, requiring two NSF respectively act as active node and standby node in two groups to forward business traffic. Therefore, only the active/active as well as layer-3 mode has group 0 and group 1. }

above is configuration in HA Policy Setting. so it is clear that HA active-active state work as well as layer-3 mode  (route mode)

hope this clarify

Hi,

Yes you can login to node device.
Go to System > HighAvailability. Choose the active-active deployment mode and click the settings button.

Yes you can.

NSF (Non-Stop Forwarding) in HA (High Availability) Active-Active configuration is typically supported only in bridge mode and virtual wire mode, not in route mode. This limitation ensures uninterrupted traffic flow without packet drops during failover scenarios.

Hi,

you may want to try to login to Controller and navigate to "System > High Availability". from there you'll find details for both deployment modes. Choose active-active deployment and click the settings button.

Hi,
Indeed, you have the ability to access the node device. Navigate to the System section and then to HighAvailability. Here, select the active-active deployment mode and proceed by clicking on the settings button.
Please note, the Non-Stop Forwarding (NSF) feature in a High Availability (HA) Active-Active setup is generally only supported in bridge mode and virtual wire mode, but not in route mode. This restriction is in place to guarantee a continuous flow of traffic without any packet loss during failover situations.

Yes, NSF (Non-Stop Forwarding) can be configured in HA (High Availability) Active-Active mode in route mode as well. NSF is a feature that allows network devices to continue forwarding packets during a control plane switchover. While it's true that some firewall vendors may restrict NSF to specific deployment modes like bridge mode or virtual wire mode, in general networking contexts (such as routers and switches), NSF can operate in Active-Active HA mode regardless of whether the device is operating in route mode or another mode. This configuration ensures that both devices actively participate in forwarding traffic and maintain state synchronization, providing redundancy and high availability for network services.

NSF (Network File System) cannot be configured in HA Active-Active mode in route mode. The documentation explicitly states that HA is only supported in Bridge mode and Virtual Wire mode, and not in Route mode. This is because Route mode is designed for routing and switching of packets, whereas HA requires a different architecture and configuration to ensure high availability and redundancy. Therefore, it is not possible to configure NSF in HA Active-Active mode in Route mode.
