Is it possible to have an access to /sys/class/dmi/id/product_uuid file on ?

AlexAfromBY Posted 18 Sep 2023 21:29

Hello,
I have a script which generates some type of an ID for on a linux virtual machine based on a content of /sys/class/dmi/id/product_uuid file. But I see that this file is inaccessible on virtual machines. Is it any method to have such file on virtual machine?  If not what is the recommended way to generate unique id based on hardware info on Sangfor HCI platform?

Thanks

Hi. In this case, you may check on the following for the uuid.
1. Enable the "Enable UUID generator" under VM > Edit > Advanced.

2. Verify whether your HCI version is up to date as the old version of HCI might not support the said features.
If the HCI is in low version, may consider upgrading your HCI version and check on the uuid file.

Yes, of course I tried it with root permission.
I have attached two screenshots which show what I have tried to do.

Hi, as per checking the mentioned file is actually available in the HCI Linux VM. Could you provide the Linux distro along with the version?
Meanwhile, kindly make sure you are accessing this file with root permission.
