1. Scenario / Issue Description
An endpoint appears healthy. The user can work normally, system performance looks fine, and no obvious malfunction is reported.
However, security events continue to appear in Athena EPP.
Some events may be repeated detections of the same file or process, while others may involve suspicious behaviour that needs further investigation.
The first reaction might be to dismiss the alerts because the endpoint is functioning normally.
But there is an important question to ask:
Does a healthy endpoint mean there is no security issue?
Not necessarily. System availability and security status are two different things.
2. Troubleshooting Approach
Step 1: Understand the Security Event
Start by reviewing the event details:
  • What threat or behaviour was detected?
  • When did the event occur?
  • Which file, process, or application was involved?
  • What action did the security product take?
  • Is the event new, repeated, or still unresolved?

Avoid judging the event based on its severity label alone. Review the available evidence.

Step 2: Check the Scope
Determine whether the event affects:
  • One endpoint or multiple endpoints
  • One user or several users
  • One application or a common process across different systems

If the same event appears on multiple endpoints, investigate whether they share the same software, file, configuration, or activity.
The scope can help distinguish an isolated incident from a wider issue.

Step 3: Verify the Detection and Response Status
Check whether the detected item was blocked, quarantined, cleaned, or left unresolved.
A detection event does not automatically mean the threat has been fully remediated.
If the same alert keeps returning, investigate whether the underlying activity is still occurring or whether the detection is being triggered repeatedly.

Step 4: Correlate Events with Recent Changes
Compare the event timeline with recent activities, such as:
  • Software installation or updates
  • Scheduled tasks or application execution
  • Changes to endpoint policies
  • Repeated execution of the same file or process

Correlating the timeline can help identify what triggered the event instead of treating every alert as a separate incident.

Step 5: Take Action Based on Evidence
If the event indicates a genuine threat, follow the appropriate investigation and remediation procedure.
If a false positive is suspected, validate the file and its behaviour before considering any exception.
Avoid disabling protection or creating broad exclusions simply to stop repeated alerts. Any exception should be narrowly scoped, justified, and approved according to security procedures.
3. Common Mistake
Assuming that everything is safe because the endpoint is running normally.
Another common mistake is treating repeated alerts as noise and suppressing them without investigating the underlying activity.
A system can remain operational while suspicious behaviour continues in the background.
4. Troubleshooting Mindset
When security events keep appearing on a healthy endpoint, don't focus only on whether the user can continue working.
Follow the evidence:
DETECTION → SCOPE → RESPONSE STATUS → TIMELINE → ROOT CAUSE
The objective is to determine what happened, whether the threat was handled successfully, and why the event continues to appear.
5. Key TakeawayA healthy endpoint is not necessarily a secure endpoint.
In Athena EPP troubleshooting, understanding the detection details, response status, and event timeline helps distinguish a resolved alert from an issue that still requires attention.
6. Community Discussion
When the same security event repeatedly appears on an endpoint that seems healthy, what do you normally investigate first: the detection details, remediation status, or the event timeline?
Share your approach or a lesson from your own endpoint security experience.
