DMP PostgreSQL Deployment Blocked by “The Platform Has Not Been Licensed” – Cause and Fix on SCP

Hello Sangfor Community,
I am George Fady, Technical Support Engineer, and I would like to share a practical troubleshooting case related to deploying PostgreSQL through DMP on Sangfor SCP.
Problem Description
A customer wanted to set up PostgreSQL on the SCP/HCI platform. When opening the PostgreSQL service page under the Database Management Platform (DMP) module, the console displayed:
“The platform has not been licensed. Please activate the license first.”
The PostgreSQL deployment was blocked and no database could be created.
Root Cause
DMP requires its own separate license authorization. Activating only the main SCP platform license does not unlock it.

  • After deployment, DMP runs in a free edition by default and cannot create databases.

  • The database service license must be applied from SCP to DMP. This includes a DMP platform license and a DMP service license.

  • DMP currently supports PostgreSQL 13.7 single-instance deployment.

Resolution Steps
Prerequisites: SCP 6.8.0 or later, DMP 2.3.2 or later, a free IP for DMP reachable from the SCP management interface, and the DMP, database and database load balancing image packages.

  • Log in to SCP with the admin account.

  • Go to Resources → Compute → Images. Upload the database load balancing image under Network Device Images, and the database platform image and database image under Advanced Service Images.

  • Go to Networking → Shared Service Network → Gateway and specify a shared service gateway.

  • Go to Networking → IP and Bandwidth → New and create an Elastic IP Pool with Line Type = Shared Network Service.

  • Go to Networking → Network Deployment → VPC Gateway and configure it as required.

  • Go to Resources → Database → Activate Now and enter the DMP management IP and internal communication IP.

  • Log in to the DMP console and apply for the license (platform + service).

  • Go to Users and Access Management → Users → Tenants → New and configure a VPC for the tenant.

  • Go to Edit Resource Quota and allocate quota to the tenant.

  • Create the PostgreSQL database in DMP.

Key Takeaway
Licensing for DMP is independent of the SCP platform license. A “platform has not been licensed” message inside DMP is a DMP licensing issue, not an SCP one.
When troubleshooting DMP deployments, check:
SCP/DMP Version → DMP License (Platform + Service) → Images Uploaded → Shared Service Gateway and Elastic IP Pool → VPC Gateway → Tenant Quota
Also remember:

  • NAT must not be placed between DMP and the database VM.

  • Databases from images not provided by DMP are not supported.

  • On SCP 6.11.1 standard edition only the management network is needed. Other versions in the 6.9.0–6.11.1 range need two independent networks.

I hope this case helps other engineers working with Sangfor SCP and DMP. Feel free to share your experience with DMP deployments and licensing in the comments.
