Athena EPP Managed License Number Mismatch

Ken Nava Lv1  Posted 2026-Sep-08 15:16

I have experience with EPP licensing and have used only 54 out of 500 licenses. While on the dashboard, 398 is managed. If anyone has encountered this situation, please let me know.

Details:
The mismatch between the dashboard’s “managed endpoints” count and the “consumed licenses” count is a normal occurrence. The managed endpoint count is a sum of endpoints in various states, some of which do not consume a license.

Troubleshooting Steps
To reconcile the license count, you need to remove unnecessary endpoint records from the EPP Manager:
  • Identify removable endpoints: Navigate to Endpoints > Endpoint Groups and filter for endpoints in an Offline, Uninstalled, Disabled, Bypassed, or Unlicensed state.
  • Manually remove endpoints: Select the endpoints you wish to remove and delete them. This will immediately release any licenses they were consuming.
  • Configure automatic cleanup: To prevent this issue from recurring, set up automatic deletion of stale endpoints. Go to System > System > General > Endpoint Deletion, and enable the rule Delete endpoints with the agent offline and uninstalled for x consecutive days (1-365) and revoke their licenses.

Hi Ken,

The 398 “Managed” endpoints do not necessarily mean that all 398 are consuming your EPP licenses. The Managed count and the license usage are separate metrics.

I would first check System > Licensing to confirm the actual Used/Total license count. Then check the endpoint list/groups and identify endpoints that are Not Licensed, Agent Uninstalled, offline, inactive, or duplicate records.

Since you currently have 500 licenses and only 54 are shown as used, the remaining license capacity should be 446. I would use the Licensing page as the reference for actual license consumption rather than the 398 Managed count.

Also check whether any branch/cascade licensing configuration is involved, as license allocation can affect how usage is displayed.

I would avoid deleting the 398 managed endpoints until you confirm their status and whether they are actually consuming licenses.

Corp ID mismatch: Verify in Endpoint Secure Manager that the Corp ID of your 500-license purchase is shared by all 398 "managed" devices. Some will appear as managed but won't use a licence if they were enrolled during a trial period or under a different tenant/Corp ID.

Hi,

Investigate why there are 398 endpoints still registered or managed when only 54 licenses are currently in use.

Recommended actions:
Review the endpoint list: Identify endpoints that are duplicates, offline, inactive, or obsolete.
Check inactive/offline endpoints: Remove or deactivate endpoints that are no longer part of your system environment, in accordance with organizational policy.
Check license allocation: Verify which endpoints actually hold an EPP license. Compare allocated licenses against the 54 endpoints currently required.
Check for duplicate devices: Reinstalled or re-imaged machines sometimes appear as separate endpoint records. Check hostnames, device IDs, and "last seen" information to identify duplicates.
Refresh/recalculate the dashboard: After removing unused endpoints or resolving issues, allow time for the management console to synchronize. Then, check if the count of 398 managed devices has decreased.

Important: Do not delete the 398 endpoints indiscriminately. First, determine whether the devices are active, inactive, duplicates, or simply being counted differently by the EPP dashboard.

If you have 500 EPP licenses and only 54 are being used then you should have 446 licenses available. The 398 “Managed” endpoints shown on the dashboard may not represent actual EPP license consumption as “Managed” and “Licensed/Used” are often separate metrics. I recommend checking the license management section, endpoint status, inactive/duplicate devices and whether other modules are being counted separately.

Sangfor's current EPP documentation separates Licensing from Endpoint Inventory/Discovery, so comparing those counters directly may be misleading.
