Hello everyone,

Following our recent discussions with Sangfor Headquarters, we would like to share a roadmap update regarding Sangfor's support for Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC).

Around June 30th, the Sangfor virtualization platform will release a new patch. This update will allow users to create a WSFC using Raw Device Mapping (RDM) with multi-pathing. Additionally, it will also support using external shared disks to set up a WSFC.

Eventually, all of these features will be fully integrated into the official mainline release. This update will significantly reduce the difficulty of replacing in the future.

Ah, got it—so basically if we’re running Windows Failover Clusters with RDM disks over FC, SANGFOR HCI isn’t the way to go. Has anyone tried using HCI-native shared storage or software-based clustering for this instead? Curious if the performance and failover reliability hold up compared to traditional FC setups.

SANGFOR HCI currently does not natively support Windows Failover Clustering using RDM disks exported via FC storage. HCI platforms usually abstract storage at the hypervisor layer, so traditional RDM over FC isn’t supported. It’s recommended to use HCI-native shared storage or software-based clustering alternatives instead. Always confirm with SANGFOR official support for the latest compatibility.

Are you asking whether SANGFOR HCI officially supports Windows Failover Cluster using RDM disks mapped via FC storage? Geometry Dash Lite

SANGFOR HCI does not support using shared disks from virtual storage for a Windows failover cluster, so a Windows cluster cannot use shared disks from virtual storage.

Regarding RDM disks, if a virtual machine's disk is an RDM disk, it cannot be migrated directly to HCI. The disk mode must be changed to Dependent, and the VM must be cloned to a non-RDM disk VM before migration. This process involves shutting down the VM, cloning it, and then using migration methods such as SCMT, Convert, or ISO migration depending on the disk mode of the cloned VM.

Additionally, migration of cluster-type services, including failover clusters, is not supported by HCI; only single-machine applications can be migrated.

Therefore, SANGFOR HCI does not support Windows failover clusters using RDM disks exported by FC storage.
