Intermittent Network Disconnection in Virtual Machine 100

Sameena Jameel Lv1Posted May-09-2025 23:05

Hello,
One of my virtual machines is experiencing intermittent network disconnection. The VM randomly loses internet connectivity for a few seconds and then reconnects. This happens multiple times during the day and disrupts user work.

Here’s what I have tried so far:

Checked the VM's network adapter settings (set to DHCP).

Pinged the gateway from inside the VM — during disconnection, pings fail.

No other VMs seem to have the same issue.

Could this be related to the VDI agent, the virtual switch, or a misconfiguration in the Sangfor settings? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Check the Virtual NIC Binding – Ensure the VM is bound to the correct virtual switch and has stable IP allocation.

Update or Reinstall VDI Agent – A corrupted or outdated VDI agent may cause communication issues.

Check for IP Conflicts – Use arp -a to ensure the VM's IP is not being used by another machine.

Review Logs in Sangfor Console – Go to the VM monitoring section and check logs for network drops or errors.

Try Assigning a Static IP – If the DHCP lease is unstable or renewing frequently, use a static IP temporarily to test.

Ping Test from Host Machine – Check if the hypervisor or host machine also experiences drops — this could narrow down if it’s a VM-only issue.

@Ayra Good advice.. I've also experienced a similar case, and it turns out that changing to VMXNET3 has quite an effect on connection stability. Checking Sangfor's log is also very important, sometimes there are network policies that run silently. Has anyone found strange triggers in the log?

One of the following elements is typically connected to the sporadic network disconnections:  1) The configuration of the virtual switch  2) Configuration of the network adapter or 3) An issue with the Sangfor VDI agent or its integration.  Using the following choices is advised.  1) Test the connection after assigning a static IP address.  2) Change the kind of virtual network interface card (e.g., from e1000 to VMXNET3)  3) To rule out host NIC/vSwitch difficulties, temporarily move the virtual machine to a different host.  4) Look for disconnection triggers or network policy enforcement in the Sangfor logs.

The intermittent network disconnection is usually related to one of the following components:

1) The virtual switch configuration
2) Network adapter settings or
3) A problem with the Sangfor VDI agent or its integration.

It is suggested to with the following options.

1) Assign a static IP and test the connection.
2) Switch to a different virtual NIC type (e.g. from e1000 to VMXNET3)
3) Migrate the VM to another host temporarily to rule out host NIC/vSwitch issues.
4) Check Sangfor logs for network policy enforcement or disconnection triggers.
