Configuring WAN Failover on Sangfor IAM Firewall

There are two main approaches to configure failover between two WAN links on a Sangfor IAM firewall:

1. Link Load Balancing with Failover:

This method uses Sangfor's built-in Link Load Balancing feature with failover capabilities. Here's a general outline of the steps involved:

    Enable Link State Detection:
Go to Network Interface > WAN Link (choose your specific WAN interface).
Click on Link State Detection Settings at the bottom.
Enable Link State Detection and choose the appropriate method (e.g., PING) to monitor your WAN connection health.
Set the Destination IP for each WAN link (usually the ISP gateway IP).

    Configure Link Load Balancing Policy:
Go to Bandwidth Management > Link Load Balancing.
Click Enable link load balancing policy. Confirm the prompt.
Ensure the line state detection shows "Normal" for both WAN links.
Under Default Link Load Balancing Policy, choose a pre-configured policy or create a new one.

Configure Failover Policy (within Link Load Balancing Policy):
When creating a new policy, you can define failover behavior.
Specify conditions for failover (e.g., link down, packet loss exceeding a threshold).
Choose the backup WAN link that takes over traffic when the primary link fails.

2. Policy-Based Routing with Failover:

This approach uses policy-based routing with failover rules. Here's a simplified overview:

    Define Network Objects:
Go to Network Objects and create objects representing your WAN interfaces and internal network segments.

    Configure Routing Rules:
Go to Route > Policy Route.
Create routing rules that prioritize your primary WAN link for outgoing traffic.
Include failover rules that divert traffic to the secondary WAN link if the primary link fails. You can base these rules on link status or other criteria.

Step 1.Login to Active device. Goto System > Deployment to check first if the IAM devices is already on RouteMode deployment. We will be using the DMZ interface

For configuring failover between two WAN links on the IAM Sangfor, it is typically need to access the device's web interface or command line interface and navigate to the WAN configuration settings. From there, one would specify the primary and secondary WAN links, set up monitoring for link availability, and define the failover criteria such as link latency or packet loss thresholds.

Configuring failover between two WAN links on Sangfor IAM (Internet Access Management) is a common requirement to ensure network reliability and continuity.

1. Log in to the Sangfor IAM web console using your administrator credentials.

2. Navigate to the WAN Configuration section, usually found under Network Settings or a similar menu option.

3. Locate the settings for WAN links and look for options related to configuring multiple WAN connections or failover.

4. Add both of your WAN links and ensure they are properly configured with the correct IP addresses, gateway, and other necessary details.

5. Look for an option to set up load balancing or failover between the two WAN links. You may need to specify the primary and secondary WAN links for failover scenarios.

6. Configure the failover settings according to your requirements. Typically, you can set up a priority order for the WAN links or specify conditions under which failover should occur (such as link failure detection).

7. Save your settings and test the failover functionality by disconnecting one of the WAN links and observing how the Sangfor IAM device switches over to the backup link.

you can try Sangfor managment console for IAM and point to network settings/config section.

To configure failover between two WAN links on the IAM Sangfor, you typically need to access the Sangfor IAM management interface and navigate to the network or WAN configuration section. From there, you can set up policies or rules to define the failover behavior, specifying criteria such as link availability, response time, or traffic load. Ensure that both WAN links are properly configured and connected to the IAM appliance.

Hi, setting up failover between two WAN links on Sangfor IAM requires a series of steps. Here’s the steps:

Activate Link State Detection: This feature is utilized to keep track of your WAN links’ status. The Destination IP can be set to your ISP’s gateway IP.
Set Up Policy Based Routing: Once link state detection is enabled, navigate to Network > Routing > Policy Based Routing and incorporate a Link Load Balancing Route.
Incorporate Network Objects: Include the interface of your WAN links for the failover process.
Establish Zones and Network Objects: These are employed to aggregate a group of IP addresses.
Implement NAT: Apply Network Address Translation (NAT) from the LAN to the WAN zones.
