Server 2019 Unable To Edit NIC

Issue Description

User have deployed a AD on HCI using Windows server 2019 version. After installation found the VM unable to edit NIC, control panel, registry and etc...

The error are prompting "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

Error/Warning Information

Handling Process


1. Go to "Local Group Policy Editor -- Computer Configuration -- Windows Settings -- Secutiry Settings --Local Policies -- Security Options".


2. Select the "Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account" and set to "Enabled" status.

3. Restart the Windows server 2019, and now you are able to modify the NIC, control panel, registry and etc...

Root Cause

A known issue in Windows server 2019, there are some limitation and need to be modify via local group policy.

Solution

Modify local group policy permission.
