Create vCenter VM Backup Failed Show Certificate Error

Issue Description

When user create the vCenter VM back up, it will fail and prompt error "failed to obtain vCenter certificate. Please check if vCenter (192.168.19.116) is offline."

Error/Warning Information

Handling Process

1. Try using HCI web console to ping the vCenter IP address.
Path: System > System diagnostics .

Result show the master node able to ping the vCenter:


2. Test on slave node, found it is unable to ping the vCenter IP address.


3. Check the internal network environment, found the Firewall between HCI and vCenter has blocked the connection. It is required to modify the Firewall setting to allow the HCI slave node to access vCenter.

4. After modifying, now both HCI nodes is able to ping the vCenter.



5. Now try to backup the vCenter VM and the result is success.


Root Cause

HCI slave node unable to access vCenter.

Solution

Check network environment to ensure HCI server able to access vCenter.
