Issue Description

When customer access to internal mail server via Google Chrome browser, some PCs will prompt this page (required to connect to login page) , click connect will go to blank page. Also found that the PC’s network icon status in unavailable.

Handling Process

1. Try other browser to access, able to access normally.
2. Enable troubleshooting passthrough and global exclude PC’s IP, issue still exist.
3. Check access control policy, customer has disabled some access to sites.
4. Capture packets on IAM, found that PC has request the following URLs:
www.msftncsi.com
msftconnecttest.com
5. Found that IAM has rejected these URLs.

Root Cause

This is caused by the chrome based detection. When Windows want to check the network status, it will send to these two link to do the checking. If the network is not able to reach, the network issue logo in the bottom right corner will shows unavailable. Chrome reads the network status and force to do the sign in first so it can access to the network.

Solution

Global exclude or allow these URLs:
www.msftncsi.com
msftconnecttest.com
