Issue Description

VDI VM backup failed due to some changes have not taken effect.

Error/Warning Information

VM logs shown as below.

Handling Process

1. Perform checking on VMP backup logs, found there are VMs failed to backup.
2. Perform checking on the VM logs on VMP, found the error description is "The virtual machine cannot be backed up - because some changes have not taken effect.
3. Further checking on the VM logs, found recently there is changes on the VM hardware such as adding new hard disk for the VM, increased RAM, and the user did not restart the VM after the changes.
4. After user restarted the VM, VM is able to backup successfully.

Root Cause

As currently VDI unable to achieved fully hot-add feature now, after modifying the hardware configuration of the virtual machine on the VMP interface, the virtual machine needs to be restarted to take effect.
If the configuration of the virtual machine is invalid, backup on this VM is not allowed.

Solution

Restart the VM after modifying the hardware configuration of the virtual machine on the VMP interface.
