Hello Sangfor Community,
I am George Fady, Technical Support Engineer, and I would like to share a practical troubleshooting case related to a cloud registration failure for an IoT/collaboration device behind a Sangfor NSF.
Problem Description
A customer was unable to complete the cloud registration of a Logitech Scheduler unit through a Sangfor NSF1100a-1 (V8.0.85). The customer suspected a blocked port, an outbound policy restriction, or a DNS issue.
Root Cause
Cloud registration for devices like this depends on uninterrupted outbound HTTPS (TCP 443) and DNS (UDP/TCP 53). After a full investigation, the firewall was ruled out. The registration still failed with the NSF removed from the traffic path, so the cause lies outside the firewall (device or vendor cloud side), and the case was escalated.
Troubleshooting Steps Performed

  • Verified DNS servers at Network → DNS → DNS Servers and tested external resolution.

  • Enabled DNS Transparent Proxy to cover devices that use their own DNS.

  • Reviewed Access Control / Application Control policies and confirmed explicit allow rules for TCP 443 and TCP/UDP 53.

  • Checked SOC → Temporary Blacklist to confirm the device was not auto-blocked.

  • Added the device to the SSL Decryption bypass list to avoid certificate interference.

  • Ran System → Troubleshooting → Precise Traffic Analysis during a live registration attempt.

  • Captured packets from System → Troubleshooting → Tools on the LAN and WAN interfaces and analyzed DNS, the TCP handshake, and TLS.

  • Performed a full firewall bypass test by connecting the device directly upstream.

Key Takeaway
When an IoT device fails to reach its cloud service, a bypass test is the fastest way to find out whether the firewall is responsible. If the issue persists with the firewall out of the path, stop tuning policies and escalate to the device or vendor side.
A good troubleshooting order is:
DNS → Access/Application Control → SSL Decryption → Blacklist → Traffic Analysis → Packet Capture → Bypass Test
Tip: the NSF packet capture tool does not accept parentheses in filters, so use flat filters like host <IP> and port 443.
I hope this troubleshooting case helps other engineers working with Sangfor NSF.
