Hello.
Can I change the hostname of the various nodes in an HCI system? The problem is that changing the name from the GUI (nodes, select node, edit "Node Name") doesn't change the web page references (https://<ip>/#/mod-entity/host-info/index?id=host-3685c918333&name=NODENAME&tab=host_info_host) or the LLDP service name, and this is very annoying.
Thank you very much.

In HCI 6.11.3, changing the Node Name from the GUI does not change the actual system hostname or LLDP name. The host-xxxx ID is also an internal identifier and normally does not change.

I would not manually change the hostname via SSH, as it could affect the cluster or licensing.

Since you can rebuild the cluster, the best approach is to confirm with Sangfor Support whether rebuilding will:

Change the actual hostname and LLDP name
Change the System ID
Affect or deactivate the HCI license

I would not rebuild the cluster until Sangfor confirms the licensing impact.
Is this answer helpful?

The “Node Name” in the HCI GUI appears to be more of a display name, so changing it may not update the underlying hostname or LLDP identity. I would avoid changing the OS hostname directly on a production cluster node without confirming the supported procedure with Sangfor Support, since hostname conflicts can affect node operations such as Replace Host. It would be useful if Sangfor could clarify the supported method to change the actual hostname and LLDP service name while keeping the node safely in the cluster.

Yes, you can change the node name displayed in the HCI GUI, but what you're seeing is expected to some extent.

The important distinction is:

Node Name in Nodes → Edit → Node Name = the display name used by HCI.
host-3685c918333 in the URL is an internal host identifier/ID, not the hostname. Changing the Node Name is not expected to change this ID.
The LLDP system/service name may come from the node's underlying OS/network hostname rather than the HCI display name, so changing the GUI Node Name may not update LLDP.

Sangfor documentation also treats hostname as a separate system-level property; for example, HCI has a specific Generate Hostname function when a node is factory-reset/replaced.

So I would not recommend trying to manually change the underlying hostname from SSH on a production cluster. It could affect cluster communication, certificates, SCP integration, or node identification.

If your main requirement is specifically “I want the new name to appear in LLDP as well”, then this is worth confirming with Sangfor Support for your exact HCI version, because I couldn't find an official procedure that says the GUI Node Name synchronizes with LLDP.

If you tell me your HCI version (for example, 6.11.3), I can check the exact procedure/limitation for that version.

I have the latest version, 6.11.3. I can break and rebuild the cluster if necessary, that's not a problem.
The issue is that I can't find any documented procedure for doing this (maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place). I also can't access it via SSH because it doesn't accept any credentials, and I'm not sure how the licensing would behave. Would the system ID change and cause the license to be deactivated?
From what I've read so far, I get the impression that there's nothing that can be done.

Hi,

Do not manually change the node name via CLI. Best to raise support ticket to Sangfor technical support.
