VDC client WOL - which tecnology is used?

Hi everybody,
we have finally in production a room in our University with Sangfor VDC.
Our clients are aDesk-STD-320 and they are connected in a network vlan different from the network used by VDC.
When we try to "power on remotely" the clients, they won't wake up.
A popup appear before sending the signal to poweron:
"Would you like to proceed?
The IP addresses of selected clients and the VDC IP address must be in the same subnet. The following clients cannot be powered on remotely: STD-100, AIR-100, EDU-50, EDU-100, STD-200H, AIR-200H, PRO-200H"

Is it really working only if same subnet is used by vdc and clients?

Does anyone know which technology is implemented to send the magic packet over the network for powering on the clients?

Yes, for Sangfor VDC remote power-on/Wake-on-LAN, the client and VDC IP addresses need to be in the same subnet for the built-in remote power-on function to work.

The mechanism is essentially Wake-on-LAN using a magic packet which is normally Layer-2 based and uses the client's MAC address. A router normally does not forward this broadcast between VLANs so VDC cannot directly wake a client located in another subnet.

For your topology:
VDC VLAN ≠ aDesk-STD-320 VLAN → VDC's built-in "Power On Remotely" will not work across the VLAN boundary.

If you must keep separate VLANs, you would need a WoL relay/proxy or Layer-3 device configured to forward WoL/magic packets between the VDC VLAN and aDesk VLAN, if supported by your network/VDC design. Simply adding a normal inter-VLAN routing rule generally isn't sufficient because WoL relies on Layer-2 broadcast behavior.
