The Athena EPP rule base maintenance platform has recently undergone a backend architecture upgrade. As a result, certain legacy 3-series builds may experience rule base update failures, which could degrade endpoint security effectiveness. To ensure your endpoints continue receiving the latest threat detection capabilities, please upgrade Athena EPP to the recommended version as soon as possible.


1. Scope of Impact
● Affected Versions: 3.7.12 and below (On-Premises deployments)
● Affected Rule Bases: Anti-virus, IOA, IOC, and Vulnerability rule bases will fail to update

Attention
If your environment falls within the affected version range and has not been upgraded, rule base updates will fail, potentially leaving endpoints unable to identify the latest threats.


2. Solution
Upgrade the affected Endpoint Security platform to Athena EPP 6.0.4 R4 + SP9. Once the upgrade is complete, rule base pulling and updates will resume normal operation.


3. Recommended Steps
1) Verify your current version: Log into the Athena EPP management console and check the platform version to determine if it falls within the affected range.
2) Back up your environment: Before proceeding with the upgrade, back up the existing configuration to ensure rollback capability if needed.
3) Perform the upgrade: Follow the official upgrade documentation to update the platform to 6.0.4 R4 + SP9.
4) Validate the update: After the upgrade, navigate to the domain network probe page and verify that the following domains are reachable:
    a. Anti-virus rule base update domain
    b. IOA rule base update domain
    c. IOC rule base update domain
    d. Vulnerability rule base update domain

Q1: Are SaaS deployments affected?
No. This issue only impacts On-Premises deployments running version 3.7.12 or below. Cloud-based deployments are not affected.

Q2: What if rule bases still fail to update after the upgrade?
First, verify network connectivity and ensure the platform services are running normally. After the version upgrade, wait until the following day and check whether the rule bases have completed updating. If the issue persists, contact technical support for further assistance.

Q3: What should I watch out for during the upgrade?
Strictly follow the official upgrade guide. Back up your configuration before the upgrade to prevent data loss in the event of an upgrade failure.
