same question.. i tried but, although the UPS communicates correctly via SNMP with HCI,  no one can turn off as per policy both VMs or Hosts .. This is a big problem especially in situations where there are power shortages that are not due to the end customer

Yes, it is possible to safely shut down virtual machines (VMs) before the UPS battery runs out.
However, you must configure this as an automated process with UPS management software tools and integrate it's with HCI platform API
Once integrated, specific rules and policies can be configured to trigger graceful shutdown scripts for virtual machines and, if required, the underlying hosts.
