DHCP - IP Reservation | Firewall

WengSang Lv1Posted 18 Jul 2024 17:51

Currently, we are trying to reserve an IP range in the DHCP firewall. We found that the reservation just can be done by manually adding the IP one-by one for the reservation.
Is that possible to add an IP range rather than one by one?

Hi,
Yes, in Sangfor NGAF (Next-Generation Application Firewall), you can add an IP range to the DHCP server configuration rather than adding individual IP addresses one by one. This makes it more efficient to manage and allocate IP addresses within a specified range.
Adding an IP Range in Sangfor NGAF DHCP Server:
Access the NGAF Management Interface:
Log in to the Sangfor NGAF management interface using your administrator credentials.
Navigate to DHCP Server Configuration:
Go to the DHCP server configuration section. This is typically found under the networking or firewall settings, depending on the version and interface layout of your Sangfor NGAF.
Add a DHCP Scope:
Look for an option to add or edit DHCP scopes. A DHCP scope defines a range of IP addresses that the DHCP server can assign to clients requesting an IP address.
Specify the IP Range:
In the DHCP scope configuration, specify the following details:
Start IP Address: The beginning IP address of the range.
End IP Address: The ending IP address of the range.
Subnet Mask: The subnet mask that defines the network portion of the IP address range.
Additional Settings (if applicable):
Depending on your network requirements and Sangfor NGAF configuration options, you may also set:
Default Gateway: The default gateway IP address for clients in this range.
DNS Servers: DNS server IP addresses that clients should use.
Lease Duration: The length of time for which the DHCP server assigns an IP address to a client.
Save and Apply Changes:
Once you have configured the IP range and any additional settings, save the configuration changes. Apply the configuration to activate the DHCP scope with the specified IP range.
Is this answer helpful?

Hi, about ip reservation on dhcp, you must specify all mac address that you want to set a specific ip (unique on your network). If you need to restrict the dhcp address pool, you can set it from the dhcp settings on ngaf's web ui.

Hello Dear

I understand your concern. Yes, it is possible to add an IP range for reservation in most DHCP firewalls, including Sangfor NGAF. Here are the general steps:

1. Go to the DHCP settings in your Sangfor NGAF firewall.
2. Look for the "IP Reservation" or "IP Binding" section.
3. Instead of adding a single IP address, you can enter the starting IP address and the ending IP address of the range you want to reserve, separated by a hyphen (-) or a dash (-). For example: 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.150
4. Some firewalls may require you to specify the subnet mask or CIDR notation (e.g., /24) to define the IP range.
5. Save the changes and apply the configuration.

By reserving an IP range, you can ensure that the specified range of IP addresses is reserved for specific devices or purposes, and the DHCP server will not assign them to other devices.

Please note that the exact steps may vary depending on the specific firewall model and firmware version. If you're unable to find the option to add an IP range, I recommend consulting the Sangfor NGAF documentation or reaching out to their support for assistance.
