Summary:

Last edited by Jacky Aug-06-2025 15:05. I installed HCI 6.10.0 R2 on 2 HPE DL380 Gen9 servers and added into a cluster. When I tried to create virtual storage with SSD, it showed the following mess ...

Just a suggestion

You can check the BIOS/RAID Controller Settings
- Ensure AHCI mode is enabled (not RAID or Legacy IDE) in BIOS for the SSD ports.
- Update your HPE Smart Array firmware (P440ar or similar) and controller drivers.
- Enable SATA 6 Gbps explicitly, if there's a setting for limiting link speed.

Note: Some controllers auto-negotiate to 3 Gbps when cable quality, backplane, or SSD compatibility is questionable.

then,

You can manually verify the SSD link speed
You can check if the SSD is being recognized at 6 Gbps:
- Use the iLO or system BIOS to see negotiated link speed.
- Boot into a Linux live image and run:

smartctl -a /dev/sdX | grep SATA

Look for:

SATA Version is: SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s

Note: If it shows 3.0 Gb/s, try reseating the drive or swapping the slot or cable (even in rackmount setups, backplane paths matter).
